On 4 May 2026, the Foundation hosted a lunch to welcome ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ณ. ๐ฆ๐ต๐ฟ๐ถ ๐ฅ. ๐๐๐น๐ธ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ป๐ถ, who was in Hong Kong to attend AsiaโPacific Regional Meeting of the International Astronomical Union (๐๐ฃ๐ฅ๐๐ ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฒ). Prof. Kulkarni is a Professor at Caltech, Member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, and Laureate of the 2024 Shaw Prize in Astronomy. ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ณ. ๐ฆ๐ต๐ฟ๐ถ ๐ฅ. ๐๐๐น๐ธ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ป๐ถ is internationally recognised for founding ๐ง๐ถ๐บ๐ฒโ๐๐ผ๐บ๐ฎ๐ถ๐ป ๐๐๐๐ฟ๐ผ๐ป๐ผ๐บ๐, enabling major discoveries in ๐๐๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ป๐ผ๐๐ฎ๐ฒ, ๐ด๐ฎ๐บ๐บ๐ฎโ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ ๐ฏ๐๐ฟ๐๐๐, ๐ณ๐ฎ๐๐ ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ถ๐ผ ๐ฏ๐๐ฟ๐๐๐, and other ๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ป๐๐ถ๐ฒ๐ป๐ ๐ฝ๐ต๐ฒ๐ป๐ผ๐บ๐ฒ๐ป๐ฎ. 3Dr Lui Che-wooโs HK$3Million Cheque Donation Ceremony for NamingโSponsorship of the Changโeโ7 Astronomical Imaging Camera Project
On September 11, 2024, Henry Yip, Chairman of the Executive Board attended Dr Lui Che-wooโs 95th birthday celebration. Henry Yip, along with Professor Quentin Parker, Director of the Laboratory for Space Research at The University of Hong Kong, and Executive Council member Mr. Tong Ka-wah, SC, accepted a HK$3 million donation from Dr. Lui's five children to the Foundation. The HK$3 million will be used to partially fund the development of the Chang'e-7 astronomical camera, a joint venture between National Astronomical Observatories, Chinese Academy of Sciences (NAOC), the International Lunar Observatory Association, The University of Hong Kong, and the Astronomical Society of Thailand, with the participation of the Princess of Thailand. The donation, a special gift from Dr. Lui's children for his 95th birthday, is of great scientific significance and a concrete expression of their support for the development of China's space science and technology.
