3Dr Lui Che-woo’s HK$3Million Cheque Donation Ceremony for Naming‑Sponsorship of the Chang’e‑7 Astronomical Imaging Camera Project
On September 11, 2024, Henry Yip, Chairman of the Executive Board attended Dr Lui Che-woo’s 95th birthday celebration. Henry Yip, along with Professor Quentin Parker, Director of the Laboratory for Space Research at The University of Hong Kong, and Executive Council member Mr. Tong Ka-wah, SC, accepted a HK$3 million donation from Dr. Lui's five children to the Foundation. The HK$3 million will be used to partially fund the development of the Chang'e-7 astronomical camera, a joint venture between National Astronomical Observatories, Chinese Academy of Sciences (NAOC), the International Lunar Observatory Association, The University of Hong Kong, and the Astronomical Society of Thailand, with the participation of the Princess of Thailand. The donation, a special gift from Dr. Lui's children for his 95th birthday, is of great scientific significance and a concrete expression of their support for the development of China's space science and technology.
